Job Description

The Payroll Tax Accountant oversees and manages all aspects of the multi-state payroll process to ensure taxes are paid accurately and timely.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills, strong initiative, excellent communication ability and exceptional attention to detail.  They will also possess the organizational skills to be able to effectively multitask without compromising quality, accuracy and completeness of transactions.

Role and Responsibilities

  • File tax reconciliations with appropriate tax authority by reconciling withholdings to general ledger balance sheet accounts and remit taxes.
  • Annually balance withholdings for each taxing authority. File all necessary year end reports.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Communicate with various taxing authorities regarding questions related to tax filings and/or payments.
  • Run appropriate reports on benefit and tax withholdings as requested.
  • Respond to current and former associate communications regarding pay, W-2 forms, address changes or other relevant requests.
  • Research any tax and compliance questions that might arise for any Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Supervise Payroll Specialist with processing bi-weekly payroll and monthly reconciliations.
  • Creating and running payroll reports.
  • Other related duties

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar area of study required.
  • One to two years of similar experience processing large, multi-state payroll.
  • Experience with Lawson software preferred.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to identify research and resolve issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Intermediate or better computer skills including MS Office, Excel and Lawson payroll

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
