Job Description

Reporting to the VP & Controller, the Director of Tax is responsible for the development of tax strategy and its implementation for the enterprise.  This position will have responsibility for overall operation of the Tax and Payroll Departments within the Finance team. The Director of Tax will be responsible for all compliance, tax accounting and tax planning. Will lead the tax team in accurate and timely compiling, preparation and filing of all federal, state and local tax returns, analyze calculation of tax provisions and disclosure of all tax matters.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to the following functional teams: Tax and Payroll Management.
  • Will work with teams to insure accurate and timely preparation and filing of all federal, state and local taxes, analyze calculations of tax provisions and disclosure of all tax matters and implement optimal tax strategies on behalf of the company
  • Prepares quarterly and year-end tax provision in accordance with GAAP (ASC 740)
  • Maintain internal controls ensuring that the Company remains compliant with all regulations
  • Reviews, builds and makes recommendations to improve tax processes
  • Reviews any non- routine transactions and executes through the tax accounting and return process
  • Reviews Corporate and Partnership tax returns
  • Reviews and prepares federal consolidated tax returns, state combined returns and other returns as required. Works with external accounting firms on review and completion.
  • Serves as technical and knowledge resource to tax department team members
  • Provides technical expertise to senior management, recommending appropriate techniques to optimize provisions of the tax code
  • Oversees filing of sales and use tax.
  • Participates in special projects, assignments and other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or similar discipline required. Master’s Degree in Accountancy preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • At least 7 years of progressively complex leadership as a Senior Tax Accountant/Tax Manager

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of taxation and tax concepts in a multi-entity, multi-state corporation
  • Experience managing complex tax issues in a corporate environment
  • Proven leadership skills to manage, coach, develop and support a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external customers
  • High organizational awareness and agility to adapt quickly
  • Advanced computer proficiency especially in Excel and Tax software
