Job Description

(Distribution Center - Retail) The Director of Operations, Inbound, plans, organizes and monitors all areas of the Receiving and Stocking departments at AWBC. This position oversees and directs activities so that AWBC’s inbound operations is sustained and operating in as safe, quality focused and efficient manner as possible.  The Operations Director works collaboratively with cross-functional teams at AWBC to ensure that Inbound operations align with company-wide strategies, initiatives and priorities based on dynamic business needs.   This is an exempt, supervisory position, reporting directly to the Vice President of the Distribution Center.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that operations are aligned and performed to achieve all Receiving & Stocking key performance. indicators including productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Provides guidance, instruction, direction and leadership for managers in areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure standard company inbound policies and procedures are adhered to, as required.
  • Monitors and audits quantitative and qualitative results that are to be achieved.
  • Promotes safety culture within the departments on a daily basis.
  • Regularly analyze the elements of Inbound functions for risks, opportunities or trends and make recommendations to correct adverse activities to management.
  • Monitor work processes to determine how current processes could be improved from a productivity, quality, or safety perspective.
  • Responsible for evaluating, planning, and implementing improvements in business processes and practices using statistical analysis and project management skills
  • Works with management to recruit, select, and develop talent for both departments.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy consulting with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains a strong relationship with the on-site and corporate leadership team.
  • Performs routine data analysis.
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., department layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned and required.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BA/BS degree preferred, Master level degree highly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead work teams successfully, while displaying core leadership skills
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse distribution management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry. A minimum of 3 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large distributor or the entire operation of a smaller distribution center. Retail distribution management experience preferred.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of warehouse and distribution functions
  • Demonstrated Understanding and use of Lean, Lean/Six Sigma and 5S process improvement concepts
  • Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with senior management, executive management, and corporate office personnel, leading across multiple leadership levels in the organization
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Can effectively organize and administer work, and ensure accountability for compliance and completion
  • Ability to prepare and present analyses and reports
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills


Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to read, understand and interpret written information
  • Must be able to write legibly
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
