Job Description

The Transportation Manager reports directly to the Sr. Director of Logistics. They provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to the logistics drivers. The Transportation Manager is responsible for achieving satisfactory CSA Scores through DOT FMCSA rules and regulation implementations – including Elogs, Driver Files, and Random D&A testing. They will be responsible for managing the partnership with our tractor and trailer lease company. The Transportation Manager will need to have a thorough understanding of the BAM/AWBC/2NC/YOMO transportation networks and be able to assist in proving ideas and projects to enhance our service.  The Transportation Manager will need to demonstrate behavior that supports AWBC & BAM core values.

 

Job Requirements

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Managing and meeting department goals.
  • Coaching and counseling performance of up to 40 direct reports.
  • Responsible for evaluating, planning, and implementing improvements in business processes and practices.
  • Assist with scheduling and assigning work daily based on projected outbound volume.
  • Perform daily administrative tasks to make sure driver routes are prepared for dispatch.
  • Participate in driver ride-a-long to understand delivery best practices, develop and document SOP’s for driver functions.
  • Analyzing invoices related to fleet expense and miles per gallon.
  • Ensuring satisfactory CSA Scores and DOT Compliance by all drivers.
  • Maintaining a working relationship with the Shipping Manager as it relates to outbound quality metrics.
  • Participating in daily, weekly, and monthly required meetings. Scheduling and hosting driver meetings.
  • Working with HR & Safety as it relates to our Safety Policy and Hiring practices.
  • Promoting safety within their department daily. In the event of an incident or accident take appropriate actions as required by policy.
  • Filling out required incident/accident reports and ensuring proper documentation as it relates to DOT and driver safety bonus goals.
  • Ability to manage individual associate performance & fleet performance.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks as required daily.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BS degree preferred.
  • 3 – 5 Years related experience in a transportation environment.
  • DOT compliance knowledge

Preferred Skills:

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to establish priorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage logistics drivers by directing, motivating, developing, and coaching.
  • Ability to understand and implement ELogs, dynamic routing software & compliance reports.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle internal and external customers.
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
