Tax Accountant

Job Description:

Responsible for preparation and filing of monthly sales and use tax returns for states along with local

jurisdictions. Makes payments for all tax liabilities and in a timely manner to avoid penalties and interest.

Prepares monthly account reconciliations and journal entries. Research state and local tax laws. Obtains and

renews business licenses. Processes personal property tax payments and return requests. Coordinates licensing

for new store openings, relocations and closing with proper jurisdictions.


$55,000 - $70,000 | Full-Time


Role and Responsibilities

• Files sales and use tax collected for the prior month, due on the 20th of each month unless the 20th is a

weekend. If so, then due on the next business day.

• Perform account reconciliations for all assigned accounts.

• Uploads journal entries in relation to sales and uses tax, business licenses, etc.

• Makes prepayments in required states, monthly.

• Performs research and obtains business licenses for new store openings in the appropriate jurisdictions.

• Processes check run for business license renewals, food permit renewals, delinquent tax bills, property tax

or others as required. Mails checks to vendor via certified mail, or if needed more urgently via UPS

overnight to avoid penalties and interest.

• Handles delinquent tax bills. Researches same to pay or dispute and documents accordingly.

• Compiles all new licenses, scan a copy to the file and mail original to store for display. Log into License HQ

and Business License Compliance calendar.

• Perform other duties as requested.


Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar program required.

• At least one to two years similar experience as a Tax Accountant required.


Preferred Skills

• Intermediate or above computer skills, especially with Excel.

• Knowledge of tax usage and application in a retail business.

• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.



Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time. • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities. • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance. • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device. • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
