Job Description

Reporting to the Café Manager, the Shift Lead is responsible for assisting in  ensuring the ongoing success of the café and its operation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the daily responsibilities of the Barista Position
  • Craft Beverages according to our quality standards and ensure standards stay in place.
  • During the majority of the shift, this is an independent position with back-up provided on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide exceptional and prompt Customer Service.
  • Must comply and ensure compliance of Food and Safety requirements
    • Complete on-going, daily and weekly cleaning of food surfaces, machinery and utensils, and customer areas.
    • Maintain store standards to comply with policies, directives, and local Health Department codes
  • Assist other team members and management with shift duties and store procedures
  • Responsible for supervision of team members and checklist execution during assigned shifts
    • Provide follow-up to the Cafe Manager on Team Member performance
  • Responsible for executing orders and inventories and receiving, as directed by the Café Manager/General Manager.
    • Assist in maintaining adequate stock levels.
  • Stock and merchandise café in accordance with company policies and procedures, maintaining a straight, organized and clean shopping environment.
  • Successfully promote and ensure team member adherence to all POS initiatives and company programs including, but not limited to discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs.
  • Maximize profits and customer service by operating the store in adherence with all company policies and procedures
  • Assist in the execution of all barista training plans as outlined by the Café Manager.
  • Assist with delegating and performing the flow of Preventative Maintenance tasks to be completed throughout the week to ensure completion.
  • Perform/oversee all Preventative Maintenance on the café machines as outlined in the communications binder.


Job Requirements

Preferred Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to learn and operate multiple café machines, including, but not limited to blenders, ovens, espresso machines, and cash registers.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Cash handling skills.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, up to 40 hours per week
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Previous Café experience preferred

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to operate a computer or register. 
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate machinery, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, or reach while performing daily activities of the job.
