Job Description

The Shipping Manager reports directly to the VP of Operations. They provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to the shipping associates. The Shipping Manager is responsible for achieving their monthly safety targets, cost per unit budget as well as overall units per hour target. The shipping manager has a thorough understanding of all warehouse operations including transportation, logistics, stocking, order filling and shipping procedures and knowledge about all AWBC departments in the warehouse. The Shipping Manager demonstrates behavior that supports AWBC core values.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Developing, managing and meeting department goals
  • Coaching and counseling performance of approximately 20 direct reports.
  • Responsible for evaluating, planning and implementing improvements in business processes and practices.
  • Training and mentoring associates in the department.
  • Providing data daily for productivity reports.
  • Reviewing and approving timesheets daily.
  • Scheduling and assigning work daily based on the day’s plan.
  • Leading and motivating the associates to meet or exceed the monthly CPU and budget.
  • Leading and motivating the associates to meet or exceed the UPH target.
  • Reviewing and communicating with outside vendors as needed.
  • Participating in daily, weekly, and monthly required meetings.
  • Interviewing and hiring candidates; make recommendations for other actions in conjunctions with Human Resources.
  • Promoting safety within their department. In the event of an incident or accident take appropriate actions as required by policy.
  • Ability to manage individual associate performance & department productivity.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • BA degree preferred.
  • 3 – 5 Years related experience in a warehouse experience, including voice pick.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (preferred)


Preferred Skills

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must process excellent organizational skills and be able to establish priorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage warehouse employees by directing, motivating, developing and coaching associates.
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of Lean, Lean/Six Sigma and 5S process improvement concepts.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle internal and external customers.
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
  • Strategic thinker, planner and change agent.
  • Ability to prepare, manage and oversee department budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Outlook required and experience with AS/400 preferred.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Lift objects up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
