Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Distribution, the Director, Operations Excellence at AWBC oversees all operations of the Operations Excellence, Inventory Control, Next Pick (replenishment), Engineering, and Restock department.  Direct reports include the 2nd Shift Operations Manager, Purchasing Manager, Inventory Control Manager, Operational Excellence Manager, along with order entry and Data Analyst Associates. In addition to overseeing these operations, this position will directly support AWBC’s Executive and management team through company-wide projects and data analysis.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Operations Excellence, Next Pick (replenishment), Engineering and Restock, Inventory Control, Order Entry, and Purchasing departments.
  • Creation and ownership of product engineering and space utilization plan for all facilities.
  • Works with 2nd Shift Operations Manager to develop facility plans to ensure the facility is operating at optimal production levels through facility design, layout, and next pick/engineering processes.
  • Analyze operational data daily to determine future projects, and create daily work plans for all areas.
  • Perform budget reconciliations to ensure that areas of responsibility are operating within budget.
  • Oversee all aspects of the logistics (daily truckload demand) planning process in coordination with Operations Excellence Manager. This includes research into plan variances, data input into the model, and feedback to functional leadership.
  • Support production departments through the creation of data / planning models to optimize efficiencies.
  • Review operational audit results and provide management with recommendations for improvement.
  • Create and implement engineering plans to ensure that facility capacity exists based on location / pick demand.
  • Works with Operations Excellence and Inventory Control Managers to provide guidance on the interpretation of operational data with other Departments.
  • Oversee lean six sigma (Process Excellence) and 5/6-S programs for entire facility.
  • Works with the Inventory Control Manager to oversee semi-annual inventory audits and cycle counts with internal and external auditors.
  • Assists in creating and implementing cycle count, immediate count, and available location audit plans.
  • Lead and coordinate special projects as assigned by Senior Leadership.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Executive Team and other managers, suppliers, and other senior leadership daily.
  • Advanced project management skillset to lead and track ongoing projects throughout the facility.
  • Assist in maintaining production and labor forecast models for the facility.

Job Requirements

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Four-year business degree, MBA or master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a warehousing, distribution, or production environment.
  • Experience managing labor budgets and costs.
  • Proven ability to both develop and lead highly functional teams within a distribution environment.
  • Experience with application of 5S/Lean/Six Sigma principles required.  Black Belt certification desired.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and communication operational data.

  • Must know intermediate statistics principles.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
