Job Description:  Join the Second & Charles Team to learn, aid in the preparation of the merchandise product assortment for a new website project.

2ND & Charles / Books-A-Million, Inc. headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, is looking for Retail Merchandising Interns! We are the second largest chain of bookstores in the United States operating over 250 stores nationwide as well as online at www.booksamillion.com.

Be a part of a winning company that has been in business for over 100 years assisting us in the work to prepare merchandise and product assortments for a new website we are developing.  This position will be involved identifying product to be part of the new website launch. This will also involve reviewing and correcting any data integrity issues discovered. This includes correcting any incorrect author, description, category, or pricing discrepancies.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Aid in the analysis and selection of product categories to be included in the new website.
  • Work closely to review and correct any inaccurate data.
  • Work with the Ecommerce Category team to learn and understand the process for adding product to the new site.
  • Help monitor business performance and communicate assortment, promotional and allocation needs.
  • Conducts proofing and quality assurance across the product assortment.
  • Communicate project status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Conducts competitive analysis to maintain awareness of consumer trends, technology, innovation, shopping behaviors and best practices.
  • Work with other corporate departments when necessary to gain assistance to complete assigned project tasks.
  • Perform other ad hoc analysis and reporting as directed.
 

 

Job Requirements

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with data bases and Access is desired.
  • Experience and proven ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Discretion to make decisions over individual tasks.
  • Good critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate both verbally and in writing.
